Hot stone massage

This type of massage uses the same massage strokes you’d expect from a Swedish massage – long strokes, circular movements, vibrations, tapping and kneading – coupled with the heat from naturally shaped basalt stones, handpicked from volcanic riverbeds.  

As well as massaging with the stones, they may also be placed on the body to provide additional heat and energy to specific areas where required.

It’s a particularly effective massage as the heat from the stones really relaxes the muscle tension in your body and allows for a deeper massage.

Hot stone massage is particularly good for:

  • Reducing muscle tension, aches and pains through the deep heat of stones
  • Reducing stress and anxiety due to the sedating effect on the nervous system

  • Boosting your immune system

What you need to know before your treatment:

  • You’ll need to complete a consultation form so the treatment can be tailored to you and any medical conditions or health issues can be highlighted.  This will only take a few minutes.  You can view a copy of this online to check if there are any areas you want to discuss beforehand.
  • Clothing will need to be removed depending on what area of the body you wish to be treated, but underwear is to be kept on.
  • Don’t have a heavy meal or consume alcohol before or soon after your treatment
  • Your body temperature will be raised after this treatment, so you need to avoid other heat treatments – swimming/sauna – for 24-48 hours
  • This treatment can be very intense and you may feel light headed, thirsty or experience a headache after the treatment.  Make sure you drink plenty of water and don’t do any vigorous exercise the same day.
