
During a typical Swedish massage treatment your therapist will use some or all of these types of massage techniques:
- Effleurage; smooth, long, continuous strokes
- Petrissage; kneading, muscle and skin rolling, wringing, picking up and vibrations
- Frictions; circular movements using the thumbs where pressure is gently increased
- Tapotement; hacking and cupping
The use of these will be tailored to how you want to feel after the massage – for example relaxed, invigorated or an improved sense of wellbeing – as well as if you have any specific areas that require more attention – tightness of the shoulders for example.
Swedish massage is particularly good for:
- Improving your circulation
- The removal of toxins from tense, knotted muscles into the lymph system
- Reducing muscular tensions
- Encouraging relaxation
- Improving your range of motion and flexibility
- Boosting the immune system
What you need to know before your treatment:
- You’ll need to complete a Consultation form so the treatment can be tailored to you and any medical conditions or health issues can be highlighted. This will only take a few minutes. You can view a copy of this online to check if there are any areas you want to discuss beforehand.
- Clothing will need to be removed depending on what area of the body you wish to be treated, but underwear is to be kept on.
- Don’t have a heavy meal or consume alcohol before your treatment.
